Update
OK, I have to talk TV because some neat things fell into place with NCIS and last night’s CSI: Miami was the biggest load of shit I have ever seen. I can’t believe someone feels pride putting this on the air. I mean, who can take this seriously. I just watch it because I like the scenes of Miami and the filters on the film. I was really hoping that was Ryan Wolfe in the car trunk. Damn, it wasn’t. Thank goodness, the Cheese Man himself, David Caruso… I mean Horatio, was not on screen a lot. Just meant more Ryan Wolfe. I miss Rory Cochran, but shame, look what the show did to him. Anyway, I’ll break down the CSI: M story below. It was so funny, I even laughed at the events of “24”, which followed. It was really awesome that they got to film in a real sub. You get to see how cramped it really is and how every bit of space is used up. You don’t see the real thing very often because all the Navy shows actually don’t film on real carriers and subs. Which leads me to NCIS. Ohmigod, I did not realize how gruesome this show is. This is probably because the first season was aired on SABC 2 with really crap reception. Now I can see all the details of someone’s entrails on the DVD. From dudes in acid to sawed off legs, to missile holes in guys, and to embowlment, I really wanted to blow chunks. I’ve never seen such realistic grossness… ever! I love Donald Bellisario’s shows (Magnum, p.i. or “mag pi”, JAG, etc.). What’s great about NCIS is that you could carbon date it based on the pop culture of the time. Some interesting things: Pauley Perrette who plays Abby has a MSc in Forensics; for the final episode (whenever that will be), Gibbs will sail off into the sunset, alone, on the boat that he is building in his basement. The kicker is (and I didn’t remember this): At the start of the last episode of Season 1, Gibbs has a dream that he goes down to the morgue and Kate is in a body bag, shot in the head by the terrorist. That was a disturbing scene. Point is: This can’t be a coincidence, because during the last few seconds of the last episode of Season 2, that’s exactly what happens to Kate and you don’t see it coming. I seem to only have remembered the character’s banter and not the actual cases so it was like watching things for the first time.
OK, now for CSI: M:
1 pool boy
3 female hotel guests
1 male metrosexual hotel manager
1 strong male hotel guest
3 idiot CSIs who pointed out that the pool boy clearly had a lot of stamina and bled all over the hotel, so feel free to pick a crime scene
The pool boy blames the first female hotel guest for his erection problem. She then takes a towel rack and hits him over the head 3 times. The blood spatters on the ceiling. You’d think the dude would be dead since part of his skull is on the towel rail. You’d be wrong. He gets an ice pack for his head and then decided to have marathon 2-hour sex with the second female hotel guest. He hits his head on the headboard during this marathon and passes out. She thinks it was just exhaustion and leaves. He then is later confronted by a third woman in the stairwell. She pushes him down the stairs and flees. The Prada-wearing hotel manager (how dumb are these CSIs that they need a computer to figure out it says Prada in the blood?) drags the body from the stairwell to the boot of his car. The pool boy wakes up in the boot of the car and with his lighter in hand screams to be let out. The manager lets him out. The pool boy runs back to the hotel and for some reason straight into the laundry room where a strong, male hotel guest snaps his neck. Finally, pool boy can get some rest!
What a load of funny shit.
I just saw Adam Rodriquez with Nicole Ritchie in a Lionel Ritchie music video. How bizarre. Oh yeah, isn’t James Spader hot in Boston Legal? It would be so weird if he came back as Daniel Jackson.
Mostly catching up on the state of television and what the US is busy with. Matthew Perry has a new show with a super long title. The need for Sci-Fi shows is over and the networks are into family shows about family now. I’m not excited about that. Saw sneak peeks of Spidey 3, Pirates 3 (The World’s End ~ cool title hey), and the new Bond (he looks so hot; this may be the best Bond film yet). I’m reading the diaries of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman from Long Way Round. Loving it. Ewan is a sensitive guy and also hysterical. I’m more like Charley, as a person. It’s a great travel and friendship book in one. My new favourite show is Numb3rs. I love everything about it. I think I connect to Charlie so much because David Krumholtz is actually my age! Plus, he’s a cute, sweet Jewish boy, babbling about math. Rob Morrow plays his older brother. The brothers are supposed to be 5 years apart, which you know if you watch the show because Charlie and Don graduated high school the same year and Charlie was 13! In reality, Rob is 16 years older than Krummy. Rob Morrow is hot though. It’s amazing how guys get hotter with age. Rob was the lead in Northern Exposure. I don’t think women age well. This is probably why I want a kid by 30 because I think I’m going to look like a grandma at 50! I know so many hot guys in their forties. Luke Perry is also hot in his old age. Watched a two-part mini-series on Hallmark called Supernova. It’s obviously about a supernova (of our sun) and it is set in Australia but filmed in Cape Town. It was so funny seeing UCT and even Table Mountain! The cars all had CA licence plates and at the end Luke Perry is braaing on Blouberg beach!
I think Amazon has realized that their price fluctuations are annoying. At least for DVDs, a box set can be $20 one day and 60 the next. They released a statement saying that only pre-orders will be charged at the lowest price advertised. While I was checking out the prices for NCIS and Numb3rs, I noticed that episodes are being sold. You pay $1.99 per episode download and you can basically get an episode after it has aired! NCIS is on Season 4 and Numb3rs on Season 3. I would love to get Queer Eye but Amazon doesn’t supply that service for that show. I don’t know how they are choosing shows. If I can find a legit place to get Queer Eye downloads from, I would! I’m also working on my TV series at last!
P.S. Does anyone have a song called Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads?
PICTURES WITH THIS POST:
David Krumholtz and Judd Hirsch in "Conversations with my Father". Judd gave David his big break when he was a kid and now Judd plays his dad on Numb3rs, which is very emotional for David. See the special features on the Numb3rs season 1 Box Set.
Sticking with Numb3rs, here's a picture of Rob Morrow from Northern Exposure. I'm obsessed with trying to see that series again. I don't really remember it. I was a kid at the time and the show was screened in Afrikaans and I had to tune in a crappy radio to get the English soundtrack. Obviously I remember Rob. I also remember Anthony Edwards, who went on to ER.
From the Mind, Body, Spirit collection, a bit on the Stargate Project, which I wanted to post for Stargate fans. It has to do with remote viewing, not necessarily space. So interesting that in a (recent) Season 2 Numb3rs episode, written by Peter MacNicol (and guest starring Smallville's Jon Glover; brilliant performance), they discuss the Stargate Project in relation to psychics. I was waiting for some comment about the Stargate TV shows, but no such luck.
On the topic of David and current colleagues: David worked with Peter MacNicol in 1993's "Addams Family Values". He was just a teenager then.
And Judd Hirsch starred in "A Beautiful Mind", which was obviously about a math genius. I love all these connections.
I was wondering, if like with House, someone could bring out a book explaining the math behind the snippets we see on the show.
Happy Birthday Carson!
